Monoprinting is the most painterly method among printmaking techniques. The characteristic of this method is that no two prints are exactly alike. Often there is a pattern or part of an image that is constantly repeated. Monotypes are essentially ONE of a kind: mono is a Latin word which means ONE and type means kind.
This medium reflects the uniqueness found in each person. We are all ONE of a kind. However, we also have common experiences and influences through shared cultures.
The imagery within the monotypes are iconic symbols commonly found in commercial use. Playing with such common images, reminds us that art and cultural symbols are imprinted everywhere. Although, none of the monotypes represent an individual person, they are all created with the idea that you can find part of yourself, your story and your community within.
