My Head Is In The Clouds!

BEGINNINGS ARE GREAT.  

We are full of hope and endless possibilities and have a sense of adventure. It is exciting to be at the beginning of The River’s Journey.

I love our metaphorical route to follow the source of our water in the Central Coast region. In a way, I am starting with my head in the clouds.  I know we need some clouds to show up really soon after 5 years of drought.  Lake Cachuma is down to 8 percent of it’s capacity.  Santa Ynez River will be a trickle once they stop releasing water. But as I look at our watershed and our water sources, I will also be immersing myself in parts of our back country, some wilderness, and the crossroads between nature and urbanization.

Ultimately, it is the human level of connection with nature that will save the fragile ecosystems that sustain us all.  At the end of this journey, I will let the art introduce you to nature, or reacquaint you with your own special relationship to this magnificent region of California.

It feels like we are at a colossal environmental crossroad of sorts.We need to become planet nurturer’s rather than just resource consumers. 

I believe, as humans, we are part of nature, not separate.  After all, we depend on healthy ecosystems for our own survival.  We have an extremely vested interest to get this right.  When we feel connected to nature we have a relationship with our natural world. This level of connection dictates our personal human-environment interactions as well as the end game, our local resource management and policy. My exploration on a River’s Journey will look at how we (as humans) are connected to our water source and the wilderness and wildlife that surrounds it.  As residents of this tiny corner of the planet, how do we, as people, interact with nature?  How do we connect with our water source? How do we, as human beings, permeate the wilderness and where can we find nature and the wild inhabiting our man made environs?

I want to build my own relationship with nature.  I want you to build your relationship with nature.

Ultimately, it is the human level of connection with nature that will save the fragile ecosystems that sustain us all.
